This vrat is not only observed for the husband’s longevity but also for family peace, positivity, and emotional well-being. Worshipping Goddess Savitri is believed to strengthen love, trust, and harmony in married life.

Vat Savitri Vrat Story

According to mythology, in ancient times there was a king named Ashwapati whose daughter Savitri was extremely wise and virtuous. When the time came for marriage, Savitri chose Prince Satyavan as her husband.

Sages informed the king that although Satyavan was noble and virtuous, he had a very short lifespan and would die within a year of marriage. Despite this, Savitri married him.

After marriage, Savitri devoted herself to serving her husband and in-laws. As the predicted time of Satyavan’s death approached, Savitri began intense fasting and prayers.

One day, Satyavan went to the forest to cut wood and suddenly collapsed. Yamraj arrived to take his soul. Savitri followed Yamraj with complete devotion.

Impressed by Savitri’s dedication and determination, Yamraj offered her blessings. She asked for the eyesight of her in-laws, prosperity for the kingdom, and finally, children.

After granting the boons, Yamraj realized that children would not be possible without Satyavan’s life. Pleased with Savitri’s intelligence and devotion, he returned Satyavan’s life.

Since then, the tradition of observing Vat Savitri Vrat began.
