The Significance of Surya

The Sun is the king of all planets (Graha Raja) in Vedic astrology, representing the self, ego, consciousness, and the spark of divinity within each individual. It governs the zodiac sign Leo (Simha) and is exalted in Aries (Mesha), where its positive qualities shine most brightly. The Sun rules the eastern direction and is associated with the day Sunday (Ravivar).

In the physical body, the Sun governs the heart, circulatory system, right eye in males, left eye in females, bones, and overall vitality. A strong Sun bestows robust health, strong leadership abilities, fame, paternal blessings, government favor, and success in positions of authority. A weak or afflicted Sun may manifest as health issues (particularly heart and eye problems), lack of self-esteem, difficulties with father or authority figures, and obstacles in achieving recognition.
